1. Civil Air Patrol Insurance


1.1 - Governing Regulation: CAPR 900-5

CAPR 900-5: Civil Air Patrol Insurance/Benefits Program describes and defines CAP’s overall insurance coverage for members during CAP activities. Be aware that it exists, should specific insurance questions need to be answered.

1.2 - Only “Approved” Missions or Activities are Insured

Only approved events qualify for insurance coverage during Air Force Assigned Missions (AFAMs) and Corporate Missions or Activities. An approved event is one that is being operated:

Examples of approved missions and activities:

  1. Properly constructed WMIRS sorties
  2. Aerospace education activities with CAPF 160 and commander buy-in.

1.3 - ⚠️ Reasons You May Forfeit Coverage ⚠️

Infraction Reasoning
No uniform, or out of uniform Being in-uniform is requirement of CAPR 39-1
Failure to complete and upload an ORM Matrix for a WMIRS Sortie Pre-Sortie/Activity Risk Management is a requirement of CAPR 160-1
Failure to complete and gain approval for a CAPF 160 prior to a Corporate Activity Pre-Sortie/Activity Risk Management is a requirement of CAPR 160-1
Failure to report a Safety Significant Occurrence (SSO) Making appropriate and timely SSO reports is a mandatory requirement of CAPR 160-2.
Operating Recklessly Not conducting oneself according to CAP and FAA rules / regulations.

1.4 - Flying Your Personal Drone

1.4.1 - Overview

Flying personally-owned drones has been approved in NHQ sUAS Programmatic Updates for training purposes and evaluations since 2018.

Personally-owned drones are covered against claims of negligence, but are not covered for hull damage.
