Overview
MOBAC creates offline map files for CAP sUAS teams to use when piloting the Skydio X2D manually or with 3D Scan. MOBAC is necessary because the Skydio X2D is an “offline” drone without internet access, so it can’t use the internet-based map creation process “online” Skydio X2s and X2Es use. Learning to use MOBAC is not hard, but it does have specific technical steps that require a little practice to get familiar with.
1. Installing MOBAC
- Go to MOBAC’s Sourceforge page (here) and download the zip file.

- Copy or move the MOBAC zip file to a folder where you would like to have MOBAC installed. Best to create a new, empty folder for this. Unzip the downloaded file in this folder.
- On windows, you can unzip the file by right clicking on the zipfile and choosing Extract All.
- Other programs like 7-zip exist that can perform this function also. Using 7-zip, slide out the side menu and choose Extract Here.

- Go into the Unzipped MOBAC folder and click the Mobile Atlas Creator Application File. On windows, you may get a prompt that Windows Protected your PC from unwanted files. Click on “more info” and click “run anyway”.
