Pre-flight Preparation
- All preparations from “Lost Link”; and,
- If available, program geofence boundaries to limit maximum flight range
- If near controlled airspace, collect the telephone number of the airport and the radio frequency for air traffic control.
Emergency Response
- Immediate Actions
- Verbally announce “Fly Away” to your sUAS Aircrew & nearby Teams or persons
- Anticipate geofence contingency behavior (if applicable)
- Record — battery life, speed, altitude, travel heading
- Secondary Actions
- Continue sending RTH command
- If geofencing fails and drone is inside or headed towards controlled airspace, contact air traffic control and report a fly away. Provide recorded flight details from earlier.
- Location and Recovery
- Contact the CAP National Operations Center (888-211-1812) and report a fly away
- Use the “Last Know Position” and “Last Flight” features of the sUAS (if available) to establish an area of probability and terrain landmarks.
