Non-participants curious or concerned about sUAS operations in the area spontaneously approach and engage CAP sUAS aircrew with questions.

Pre-flight Preparation

  1. All sUAS Aircrew in uniforms and safety vests, which communicates professionalism
  2. For congested areas, safety cones placed around aircrew to communicate boundaries
  3. “Interceptor” is designated. Usually the sUAS Technician. They intercept inbound non-participants and answer questions or attempt to de-escalate.

Emergency Response

  1. Immediate Actions
    1. Verbally announce “Guest” to your sUAS Aircrew
    2. Designated interceptor meets with the non-participant and triages the situation
  2. Secondary Actions
    1. sUAS PIC acquires VLOS on the sUAS
    2. sUAS is placed in stable hover or loiter
    3. Can the sUAS Technician resolve the interference and return to crew duties?
      1. Yes - Continue the flight
      2. No - Abort the flight and safely land the sUAS.
