1. CAP Weather Minimums and Maximums

Visibility At least 3 Statue Miles (SM) or greater, unless under COA from NHQ
Cloud Clearance 500 feet below; 2000 feet horizontal separation
Winds 1. CAP wind maximums are 25mph for fixed wing; 30mph for rotary aircraft

2. Obtain Weather (WX) Forecast

2.1 - Low Tech

  1. Look out the window and see conditions for yourself.
  2. Watch the local news for a forecast and color commentary.
  3. Grab a newspaper and bring it along.

2.2 - Weather Forecast Apps

There are many software options CAP members use to generate weather forecasts. Manned Pilots commonly have Foreflight installed on an iPad and that’s more than enough. If you already have a technique in place, great! If you need suggestions on apps to use, read on.
